FAQs
Who can participate in the Golf Life Management
System(GLMS)?
GLMS is an EWGA membership benefit and is
available to all EWGA members who wish to
maintain a handicap. There is no charge for
using the service.
How do I activate the GLMS?
GLMS is accessed through the website
www.ewga.com. Click on
Members Only Login using your EWGA Member ID.
Click on Activate Golf Life Management and follow the prompts.
I’ve previously maintained my handicap through
GHIN(Golf Handicap Index Network). How does
GLMS compare to GHIN?
Both GLMS and GHIN are computerized handicap
computational services that operate within USGA
Handicap System guidelines. Both systems use
the same formula to calculate handicap indexes.
How do I load my GHIN scoring history into GLMS?
Manually post your last 20 GHIN scores into GLMS
to generate an official USGA handicap index.
Do all EWGA members have to participate in the
GLMS?
Obtaining a handicap through the GLMS is
optional. If you don’t wish to use the system,
simply don’t post scores to it.
GHIN is the most widely used handicap system.
Why didn’t EWGA choose GHIN as a provider?
GHIN was developed by the USGA for use in its
licensed golf associations. Since the EWGA is
not and cannot qualify as a licensed state or
regional golf association, we were not able to
consider the use of the GHIN system as a
computational system to offer our Chapters.
EWGA interviewed several companies that provide
USGA handicap computational services. In the
final analysis GLMS more than met our
requirements. In addition to meeting our needs
for handicap services, it also provides all
Chapters leading edge technology in the form of
online calendaring, communication, and golf
event management & registration – all at no
additional fee. We are very excited to provide
these services to our Chapters and members as a
part of membership dues.
What if I want to continue maintaining my
handicap through GHIN?
Access to the GHIN system is no longer available
through EWGA. GHIN membership can be obtained
through any local golf course for a fee.
Please note that the Tennessee Golf
Association requires a GHIN handicap for
participation in any of the four state women’s
golf tournaments: Women’s Amateur, Women’s
Open, Women’s Four Ball, and Women’s Senior.
I’ve never had a handicap before. Why should I
get one now?
For starters, it’s free….or shall we say it’s
included in your membership dues. Thanks to the
GLMS it’s never been easier for EWGA members to
get a handicap. A handicap is simply a gauge of
your skill level. Having a handicap allows you
to compete on a level playing field with golfers
of all skill levels. It provides a barometer of
your progress or improvement over time, and
provides a personal badge of accomplishment. A
handicap is necessary to play in many
tournaments, including the EWGA Chapter
Championship. Having a handicap
makes you eligible for the Most Improved Golfer
Award, given every year by the Middle Tennessee
Chapter to the golfer with the most improved
handicap. There is no downside to having a
handicap!
Okay, you’ve convinced me. If I’ve never had a
handicap before, how do I get one using the GLMS?
Save your score cards. Go to
www.ewga.com and activate your GLMS
profile. Post five 18-hole scores or ten 9-hole
scores (front 9 and back 9 from the same
course). GLMS will generate your USGA handicap.
